TEHRAN: US sanctions will not curb Iran's influence in the region
Monday 13 August
BAGHDAD ( Reuters)
- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Monday that US sanctions would not curb Iran's influence in the region.
Zarif said that "the sanctions imposed by America, will not change the regional policy pursued by the Islamic Republic."
The Iranian minister stressed was quoted by the channel " Al Jazeera " that his country "will not curb its influence in the Middle East , despite growing US pressure on Tehran to limit its activities in the region."
"There will be no dialogue with the United States under sanctions and threats, and any dialogue with Washington needs the US administration to respect others and stop imposing sanctions," he said.
US President Donald Trump withdrew last May from the nuclear deal signed with Tehran in 2015, saying he had not dealt with Iran's ballistic missile program or its nuclear activities beyond 2025 or its role in conflicts in the region, particularly in Yemen and Syria.
